This article aims to analyze the supplementaiy means of payment, its origins, evolution and benefits. The most representative experiences were reviewed in the world, Latin America and Ecuador. Finding that the supplementary means of payment or social currency remain valid and success cases in search of a better balance, making way for possibilities of solidarity finances, development of skills and resources, under a community and sustainable development.
