Abstract

Work environment refers to a group of measurable characteristics of a work atmosphere, according to how people who work within this environment perceive them; it is an essential element for organizations strategic planning, since, it permits to work on employees motivation in order to get better economic results.

Knowing work environment appropriately gives the employee some feedback on processes which determine organizational performance, in addition, it permits to introduce some planned changes not only on people´s attitude and conduct, but also on organizational structure, as well as on some subsystems that are part of it. A “good atmosphere” is an expression that means an environment where projects and concerns are shared, individual and group sense of tasks are clarified, everyone's commitment with the organization goals are promoted. An opposite work environment tends to crush the subjects.

This article appreciates influence of 5S program on improving work environment for organizational development. 5S Program permits employees to create their own form of discipline and way of life; it organizes, prepares, cleans and exploits work areas, which improves productivity and reduces efforts on people who do the tasks.
