Abstract

Intoxication is a public health problem all over the world; Ecuador is not exempt from this world problem. Toxicology Information Centers (TICs) have been created to support intoxication matters. Experts made a review of statistics generated from TICs in Ecuador from 2008 to 2010, in order to know their contribution to knowledge about performance of intoxications. This review was based on some publications made by many TICs in the world, and on the guidelines set by World Health Organization (WHO) and International Chemical Security Program (ICSP). As a conclusion, intoxication is a really important public health problem in Ecuador; it has an increasing rate of 15% up to 35% yearly. It is required to spread, expand and keep this service to increase its breadth of coverage up to 50% total of cases in the country in the next 5 years.
