Abstract

In Ecuador, solid wood such as pine is available for
structural use and with which MLE (Glued Laminated
Wood) elements are already manufactured. In the
laboratory of the Housing Research Center (CIV) of
the National Polytechnic School, tests were carried
out according to the ASTM D198 standard (Standard
Static Test Methods for Wood in Structural Sizes) on 4
MLE beams made of pine, the dimensions are 0.14x0.
.32x4.10 m, being structural dimensions. These probes
were manufactured entirely in MADEBÚ, which is a
laminated wood industry located in Quito. The bending
test on beams that have dimensions of a structural nature
provides information that is closer to the real behavior
of these elements when they are part of a structure. It
is important to know the mechanical properties of this
type of parts (elastic modulus, bending resistance) and
compare them with results obtained with other similar
research since knowing the capabilities offered by this
material allows us to continue with the development and
implementation in manufacturing. industry. Ecuadorian
construction. Among the results obtained, it is evident
that there is a decrease of approximately 49% in the
properties of solid pine wood when forming laminated
elements. Furthermore, it is observed that the load vs.
deformation curve obtained in the bending test has a
linear behavior until reaching breakage, resulting in a
brittle and explosive failure, which indicates that the
MLE could only act in the linear range.
