Abstract

Despite the recognized “Guggenheim effect” has in many cases failed, the museum, in its traditional conception, continues to proliferate as a cultural building par excellence, but currently challenged and eager for innovation. Faced with numerous unsuccessful museum projects, focused on appearing by their external image (container) and conceived as inert treasurer of culture (content), the article aims to demonstrate the need to generate cultural projects starting from a network of actors that strengthen the relationship between culture, education, society and urban space. Through the experience of the project of the Factory of Culture/ District School of Arts and Popular Traditions in Barranquilla, Colombia, the process to reinforce the generation of alternatives that allow to conceive a new idea of cultural space is evidenced. This new idea of space is not a simple shining container of consumption of the work of art, but rather a space of collaborative production of knowledge, capable of interacting with society and context. The project, under construction, is based on the idea of integrated infrastructure, which will not only present the experience of the Carnival of Barranquilla, but will be the “factory” where the event itself is produced and shared. The project, still under construction, is already perceived as part of the community in which it is inserted, enhancing local identity as a paradigm for a more inclusive city.
