Abstract

The fundamental purpose of the present paper is to describe, from a critical perspective, the issue of follow-up or academic tutorial advising on degree or thesis work programs of the university and its impact on the production of knowledge. In order to achieve this purpose, a diagnosis was accomplished to the tutorial process professors perform with their academics in the development of research, at the same time it identifies roles and functions the tutor must assume. The theoretical-conceptual conceptions are founded on aspects related to the processes of tutoring, reflected as a determining factor in the development of research and operationalized on the basis of categories or dimensions: theoretical-epistemological, methodological-practical, applicative-reflective, academic advising, investigative experience, among other matters. The methodology in which underpinned the final work was an investigation of multidimensional, multi-referential perspectives (quali-quantitative). The findings of the work made it possible to generate a stable body of ideas aimed to strength the process of research counseling or mentoring, to promote the scientific and technological knowledge production, by means of redefying the degree works or thesis concepts, based on research lines contextualized according to needs and strategic areas of society, supported by philosophical-epistemological as well as scientific and humanistic conceptions aimed to improve the research skills of the students.
