Abstract

The Inca Traíls’ traces are an integral part of the northern andean cultural landscape of the Republic of Ecuador. Its vestiges are spread from the border at the North (Colombia) to the southern border (Peru) in the province of Loja. Despite the scarce material's evidence, it has been possible to trace the route based on historical data and early documentary sources. In the case of the north, between the cities of Quito and Tulcán, the path preserves testimonies in the rural and mountains areas, which were visited by the author in the framework of the cultural properties’ inventory project made by the Ecuadorian' State in 2008-2009. The study presents a revision of the vestiges found in the field and contrasting them with the historical information available.
