Abstract

This research was conceived with the purpose of establishing a traceability of the ancestral Waranka knowledge, recognizing its origins and delimiting, as far as possible, those knowledge and traditions that are still valid today. A qualitative exploratory approach was used, considering information retrospectively. The data and information necessary for the development of the study was collected using the bibliographic search, supported by interviews with important personalities at the local level, who contributed in the process of recognition of the Waranka roots and those determining events that occurred in the past and in recent years. The research allowed to establish important aspects of the origins of what we call today the Waranka people, how was the process that led to the consolidation and settlement in the Bolívar province and some of the traditions that are maintained to this day. As a general conclusion, the imperative need to establish a deep investigation in the locality was emphasized, which leads to the generation of a formal document which compiles the historical content and ancestral knowledge of the indigenous population of the province, likewise it was recognized that the people Waranka results from a multi-ethnic influence of different peoples of Ecuador, which has given it the strength and capacity to adapt over the years.
